IB English A Literature TutoringRead closely.
Compare with purpose.

An IB English Literature tutor helps you turn a perceptive reading into a sustained literary argument. Work on voice, structure and form, and learn to compare how different texts shape an idea rather than retell their plots.

APPLY. INTERPRET. EVALUATE.

Two objects. Two kinds of absence.

Compare how these original teaching fragments present an absent person. Build an argument about narrative method, not a summary of events.

Original illustrative teaching material · not an IB exam question
FragmentText
AHe polished her cup each morning. He never filled it.
BBy winter, the cup had vanished. No one remembered who had moved it.
Step 1 of 4Analyse pattern and interruption.

In A, the habitual action “each morning” sustains a ritual, while the short negative sentence interrupts its expected purpose. The cup signifies a presence deliberately maintained through an action that cannot restore it.

  1. Analyse pattern and interruption.

In A, the habitual action “each morning” sustains a ritual, while the short negative sentence interrupts its expected purpose. The cup signifies a presence deliberately maintained through an action that cannot restore it.

  2. Compare narrative agency.

B shifts attention away from an identifiable actor: “had vanished” and “no one remembered” make removal difficult to attribute. Time is marked by a season rather than a repeated daily ritual.

  3. Qualify the interpretation.

A may suggest grief, denial or obligation; B may suggest forgetting or shared avoidance. The fragments do not settle motive. A strong reading acknowledges this ambiguity instead of inventing a biography.

  4. Form a comparative judgement.

Both fragments mediate absence through an ordinary object. A makes remembrance active and repetitive; B presents disappearance as gradual and collectively unowned. The comparison rests on syntax, agency and time, not merely a shared theme.

EXCEPTIONAL TUTORS. RIGOROUS STANDARDS.What it takes to teach at AcadyDiscover how we select, screen and support our IB teachers and graduate tutors.

Outstanding qualifications are only the starting point. We select exceptional IB teachers and IB graduate tutors through a rigorous screening process, looking for the expertise, teaching ability and dedication that make a lasting difference to students.

Four qualities. Every Acady tutor.

Deep subject mastery

A thorough understanding of the subject, with the ability to explain both the fundamentals and the most demanding concepts clearly.

IB mastery

Detailed knowledge of the IB curriculum, assessment criteria and exam expectations, so every lesson supports what the student needs to achieve.

Teaching that connects

The ability to turn knowledge into understanding and build rapport with different students, adapting to their learning preferences, obstacles and challenges.

Commitment & consistency

Effective tutoring grows through a structured, consistent relationship. We work with tutors who prioritise their students and commit to supporting them for the long term.

There are many tutors online. Only a small selection meet all four standards. Our selection process brings these qualities together to give you or your child the strongest possible foundation for academic progress.

How we safeguard teaching quality

  1. Recruit against strict requirements

We select IB teachers and graduate tutors whose academic background, IB expertise and commitment meet our demanding entry requirements.

  2. Get to know the person

Through multiple interviews, we explore their motivation, communication style and approach to supporting students over time.

  3. Put teaching skills into practice

Subject-specific case studies test how they explain ideas, respond to difficulties and guide a student towards understanding.

  4. Verify their background

We rigorously check qualifications and relevant experience, making sure the credentials behind an impressive profile stand up to scrutiny.

  5. Monitor quality and consistency

We follow our tutors’ performance, reliability and teaching quality, with the impact on students’ progress as our central measure.

  6. Stay involved with families

We stay in close contact with IB families and their tutors, helping align expectations, address concerns and keep the right support in place for each student to do their best.

EXPERTISE. CARE. REAL PROGRESS.

Why choose Acady
for IB English A Literature?

At Acady, your tutor match and lesson priorities start with your needs. Work with an IB English A Literature tutor on turning close reading into a convincing literary argument, with focused feedback and opportunities to put the learning into practice.

02

Start with your reading and teacher feedback

Share the works you study and a response you found difficult. Your tutor checks whether you need closer attention to the passage, a clearer interpretation or a stronger comparative focus.

03

Explain how literary choices shape meaning

Examine voice, form, imagery and structure in context. Your tutor helps you test an interpretation against the text and consider another reading without losing the focus of your argument.

04

Compare through an idea, not two summaries

Plan a response around a question that connects the works. Practise selecting evidence and explaining meaningful similarities and differences, with feedback on how each paragraph develops the comparison.

05

Discuss passages and practise oral analysis

Use online lessons to annotate a passage, explain a claim and respond to questions. Your tutor helps you develop precise expression while preserving your own interpretation and voice.

06

Experience the match in a trial lesson

Start with a free consultation, then a 60-minute trial lesson to experience the support. If the match feels right, continue straight away. If a different approach would suit you better, our team helps you find another tutor.

YOUR COURSE. YOUR NEXT STEP.

English A Literature SL or HL?

Choose support that matches your actual level, material and examination session. The depth of a lesson should reflect what you are studying and where you want to improve.

SL

STANDARD LEVEL

Apply your understanding clearly.

Build confidence with English A Literature tasks at the level you are studying. Work on selecting relevant knowledge, communicating a method and using evidence to support your answer.

HL

HIGHER LEVEL

Develop depth and independence.

Work through the additional demands of your HL course and make more precise connections. Your tutor adapts the depth of practice to your syllabus, selected material and teacher feedback.

What we can work through together

Unseen literary analysis

Explore how wording, form and structure shape meaning. Support an interpretation with precise textual evidence and consider another plausible reading.

Comparative literary arguments

Compare how texts develop an idea through different methods. Organise around the argument rather than separate summaries of each work.

Oral interpretation & global issues

Practise explaining a focused interpretation aloud and responding to questions. Use your school’s works and task guidance to shape preparation.

Essay planning & close textual evidence

Build clear paragraphs in which evidence supports analysis. Work on transitions, conceptual precision and the relationship between a local detail and a wider argument.

Tell us your level, examination session and the topics or options selected by your school. Lessons follow your actual course and its assessment requirements. Official IB course information ↗

An IB English Literature tutor helps you turn a perceptive reading into a sustained literary argument. Tell us which part of the course or task is currently most difficult so we can discuss suitable support.

Can you help with assessed coursework?

We can discuss methods, practise relevant skills and help you understand expectations. The work you submit must remain your own. Your school’s rules determine which forms of outside support and feedback are appropriate.

Can you support both SL and HL?

Tell us your level, examination session and course materials so we can discuss an appropriate tutor match and the depth of support you need.

How does online tutoring work?

Meet your tutor online and work through the material together using discussion, shared examples and a whiteboard where useful. Sessions can combine explanation, practice and feedback around your questions.
