APPLY. INTERPRET. EVALUATE.

A narrower question is only the start.

A student proposes: “How does social media affect teenagers?” Evaluate a more focused direction without confusing accessible data with evidence that can establish causation.

  1. Check subject fit first.

The question must fit the chosen EE subject or permitted pathway, including its methods and expectations. A broad social topic is not automatically suitable for every subject simply because data can be collected.

  2. Define terms and boundaries.

Specify what counts as evening use, how sleep duration is measured and which group and period are studied. Narrowing these terms improves feasibility, but does not itself make a question analytically worthwhile.

  3. Evaluate the method and ethics.

Self-reported measures may be inaccurate and a correlation cannot isolate causation. For any proposed primary research, consult the supervisor on suitability, ethics and consent, especially when participants are minors.

  4. Refine the claim to the evidence.

A well-scoped investigation could discuss an association and its limitations; it should not promise to establish an effect without an appropriate design. Confirm access to suitable evidence and agree the direction with the school supervisor.

EXCEPTIONAL TUTORS. RIGOROUS STANDARDS.What it takes to teach at AcadyDiscover how we select, screen and support our IB teachers and graduate tutors.

Outstanding qualifications are only the starting point. We select exceptional IB teachers and IB graduate tutors through a rigorous screening process, looking for the expertise, teaching ability and dedication that make a lasting difference to students.

Four qualities. Every Acady tutor.

Deep subject mastery

A thorough understanding of the subject, with the ability to explain both the fundamentals and the most demanding concepts clearly.

IB mastery

Detailed knowledge of the IB curriculum, assessment criteria and exam expectations, so every lesson supports what the student needs to achieve.

Teaching that connects

The ability to turn knowledge into understanding and build rapport with different students, adapting to their learning preferences, obstacles and challenges.

Commitment & consistency

Effective tutoring grows through a structured, consistent relationship. We work with tutors who prioritise their students and commit to supporting them for the long term.

There are many tutors online. Only a small selection meet all four standards. Our selection process brings these qualities together to give you or your child the strongest possible foundation for academic progress.

How we safeguard teaching quality

  1. Recruit against strict requirements

We select IB teachers and graduate tutors whose academic background, IB expertise and commitment meet our demanding entry requirements.

  2. Get to know the person

Through multiple interviews, we explore their motivation, communication style and approach to supporting students over time.

  3. Put teaching skills into practice

Subject-specific case studies test how they explain ideas, respond to difficulties and guide a student towards understanding.

  4. Verify their background

We rigorously check qualifications and relevant experience, making sure the credentials behind an impressive profile stand up to scrutiny.

  5. Monitor quality and consistency

We follow our tutors’ performance, reliability and teaching quality, with the impact on students’ progress as our central measure.

  6. Stay involved with families

We stay in close contact with IB families and their tutors, helping align expectations, address concerns and keep the right support in place for each student to do their best.

EXPERTISE. CARE. REAL PROGRESS.

Why choose Acady
for IB Extended Essay?

At Acady, your tutor match and lesson priorities start with your needs. Work with an IB Extended Essay tutor on planning a manageable inquiry and building an evidence-based argument, with focused feedback and opportunities to put the learning into practice.

02

Begin with a workable research question

Share your subject, examination session and supervisor’s guidance. Your tutor helps you think through scope, available evidence and method before you commit to an investigation that is too broad.

03

Make research choices you can justify

Compare sources and approaches in relation to your question. Discuss what the evidence can establish, where it is limited and how those limitations should shape the argument.

04

Build skills for your own independent work

Practise source evaluation, argument structure and referencing through discussion and examples. Your tutor supports the skills behind the essay; the research, writing and assessed decisions remain yours.

05

Keep the next step manageable

Use online sessions to discuss obstacles and prepare purposeful questions for your supervisor. Break the investigation into realistic tasks and review how each contributes to answering the research question.

06

Experience the match in a trial lesson

Start with a free consultation, then a 60-minute trial lesson to experience the support. If the match feels right, continue straight away. If a different approach would suit you better, our team helps you find another tutor.

YOUR COURSE. YOUR NEXT STEP.

Extended Essay support

Develop the skills behind your own work. Tutoring complements the guidance and requirements provided by your school.

01

PLANNING

Find a workable question.

Discuss subject fit, scope, available evidence and a suitable method. Use the conversation to prepare informed decisions with your school supervisor.

02

INVESTIGATION

Build a reasoned inquiry.

Develop research, source evaluation and argument skills. Review how evidence supports your conclusion and identify limitations without handing over authorship.

What we can work through together

Research questions & scope

Narrow the focus and clarify the terms before building a response. Check that the question fits the task and the evidence available.

Methods, sources & evidence

Examine the basis of a claim, the strengths of a source and the limits of a method. Distinguish a possible explanation from a justified conclusion.

Argument, structure & referencing

Organise a line of reasoning that stays focused on the task. Discuss how an example supports the claim and what a counter-perspective changes.

Reflection & project planning

Plan manageable next steps and reflect on decisions. Work within your school’s guidance while keeping the thinking, research and writing your own.

The Extended Essay is a DP core component, not a separate SL or HL course. Share your subject, exam year and school guidance. The revised EE framework is first assessed in 2027. Official IB course information ↗

What can an IB Extended Essay tutor help with?

IB Extended Essay support helps you plan a manageable investigation and make decisions about evidence, method and structure. Develop the skills to carry out your own research with a clear question and a coherent line of argument. Tell us which part of the course or task is currently most difficult so we can discuss suitable support.

Does tutoring replace my school supervisor?

No. Your supervisor remains responsible for the school’s guidance and required process. Tutoring can support research and reasoning skills; it does not supply your investigation, write the essay or replace required supervision.

How do you support independent work?

We can discuss methods, practise relevant skills and help you understand expectations. The work you submit must remain your own. Your school’s rules determine which forms of outside support and feedback are appropriate.

Does this follow my school’s requirements?

Share the task instructions and examination session. We use them to discuss appropriate support and respect the role of your teacher or supervisor.

How does online tutoring work?

Meet your tutor online and work through the material together using discussion, shared examples and a whiteboard where useful. Sessions can combine explanation, practice and feedback around your questions.

How does the trial lesson work?

Start with a free consultation to discuss your needs. A 60-minute trial lets you experience the support before continuing. We explain the trial options and costs before you book; if the match needs adjusting, we help you find a more suitable tutor.
