APPLY. INTERPRET. EVALUATE.

What does “success” mean in a source?

An invented government bulletin claims an industrial policy succeeded. A fictional factory record reports output and employment. How would you evaluate the claim?

  1. Establish what the figures show.

Total output increases by 20%, while the workforce rises by 50%. Output per worker changes from 0.100 to 0.080 index units: a 20% decline. These measures support different meanings of success.

  2. Evaluate origin and purpose.

A government bulletin may be valuable evidence of official priorities and public presentation. Its persuasive purpose limits its usefulness as an independent judgement of economic performance; it does not make every factual claim worthless.

  3. Corroborate and qualify.

The factory record offers a different perspective but may cover only one site and use changing measurement practices. Seek comparable records, working conditions and wider economic evidence before generalising about the policy.

  4. Reach a bounded judgement.

The records suggest higher output and employment, not necessarily greater productivity or living standards. Define the criterion of success and explain which conclusion the available evidence supports. These invented sources practise method, not a historical factual claim.

A strong history response distinguishes what a source claims from what it can establish. Work on provenance, corroboration and competing explanations, then organise evidence around an argument instead of a chronological retelling.

Bring a question, a recent piece of feedback or a task you find difficult. We’ll help you identify what needs attention and choose a useful next step.

REACH YOUR FULL POTENTIAL

The Benefits of
IB History Tutoring

Strong History answers make a case. Tutoring helps you select relevant evidence, evaluate sources and weigh interpretations, so that your knowledge becomes a focused argument rather than a list of events.

Use a recent response to identify where the explanation, evidence or evaluation needs work. Practise a related question, compare approaches and build the precision and independence needed for stronger assessment responses.

EXCEPTIONAL TUTORS. RIGOROUS STANDARDS.What it takes to teach at AcadyDiscover how we select, screen and support our IB teachers and graduate tutors.

Outstanding qualifications are only the starting point. We select exceptional IB teachers and IB graduate tutors through a rigorous screening process, looking for the expertise, teaching ability and dedication that make a lasting difference to students.

Four qualities. Every Acady tutor.

Deep subject mastery

A thorough understanding of the subject, with the ability to explain both the fundamentals and the most demanding concepts clearly.

IB mastery

Detailed knowledge of the IB curriculum, assessment criteria and exam expectations, so every lesson supports what the student needs to achieve.

Teaching that connects

The ability to turn knowledge into understanding and build rapport with different students, adapting to their learning preferences, obstacles and challenges.

Commitment & consistency

Effective tutoring grows through a structured, consistent relationship. We work with tutors who prioritise their students and commit to supporting them for the long term.

There are many tutors online. Only a small selection meet all four standards. Our selection process brings these qualities together to give you or your child the strongest possible foundation for academic progress.

How we safeguard teaching quality

  1. Recruit against strict requirements

We select IB teachers and graduate tutors whose academic background, IB expertise and commitment meet our demanding entry requirements.

  2. Get to know the person

Through multiple interviews, we explore their motivation, communication style and approach to supporting students over time.

  3. Put teaching skills into practice

Subject-specific case studies test how they explain ideas, respond to difficulties and guide a student towards understanding.

  4. Verify their background

We rigorously check qualifications and relevant experience, making sure the credentials behind an impressive profile stand up to scrutiny.

  5. Monitor quality and consistency

We follow our tutors’ performance, reliability and teaching quality, with the impact on students’ progress as our central measure.

  6. Stay involved with families

We stay in close contact with IB families and their tutors, helping align expectations, address concerns and keep the right support in place for each student to do their best.

EXPERTISE. CARE. REAL PROGRESS.

Why choose Acady
for IB History?

At Acady, your tutor match and lesson priorities start with your needs. Work with an IB History tutor on building historical arguments that are supported by evidence, with focused feedback and opportunities to put the learning into practice.

02

Lessons follow the history you actually study

Share your school’s selected topics, recent essays and teacher feedback. Your tutor uses these to focus on the knowledge, source analysis or argument that needs attention.

03

Move from recounting events to explaining them

Compare causes, consequences and interpretations using relevant historical evidence. Work with your tutor to decide which examples advance the argument and which details distract from the question.

04

Make evaluation part of your argument

Practise examining a source’s origin, purpose and content in relation to a specific inquiry. Review essay plans and practice responses to develop judgements supported by evidence rather than assertion.

05

Build and test an essay plan online

Annotate sources and organise an argument with your tutor. Explain your choices aloud, consider an alternative interpretation and practise turning the plan into a focused response of your own.

06

Experience the match in a trial lesson

Start with a free consultation, then a 60-minute trial lesson to experience the support. If the match feels right, continue straight away. If a different approach would suit you better, our team helps you find another tutor.

YOUR COURSE. YOUR NEXT STEP.

History SL or HL?

Choose support that matches your actual level, material and examination session. The depth of a lesson should reflect what you are studying and where you want to improve.

SL

STANDARD LEVEL

Apply your understanding clearly.

Build confidence with History tasks at the level you are studying. Work on selecting relevant knowledge, communicating a method and using evidence to support your answer.

HL

HIGHER LEVEL

Develop depth and independence.

Work through the additional demands of your HL course and make more precise connections. Your tutor adapts the depth of practice to your syllabus, selected material and teacher feedback.

What we can work through together

Source analysis & corroboration

Use concepts precisely and connect them to relevant evidence. Distinguish description from explanation so that each example advances your argument.

Causation, change & significance

Compare perspectives or approaches using consistent criteria. Examine what a model or source can establish and where its assumptions limit the conclusion.

Comparative essay arguments

Develop a judgement that addresses the question and acknowledges competing priorities. Support it with specific evidence rather than an unsupported generalisation.

Historical investigation & research

Practise planning and communicating a sustained response. Review the link between your question, method, evidence and conclusion.

What can an IB History tutor help with?

An IB History tutor helps you move from knowing events to explaining their significance. Develop source evaluation and comparative arguments that answer the question, with precise evidence and a considered judgement. Tell us which part of the course or task is currently most difficult so we can discuss suitable support.

What should I bring to a History lesson?

Bring your task instructions, relevant class materials and any teacher feedback. A recent attempt is useful even when it is unfinished: it gives the tutor a clearer view of your reasoning.

Can you help with assessed coursework?

We can discuss methods, practise relevant skills and help you understand expectations. The work you submit must remain your own. Your school’s rules determine which forms of outside support and feedback are appropriate.

Can you support both SL and HL?

Tell us your level, examination session and course materials so we can discuss an appropriate tutor match and the depth of support you need.

How does online tutoring work?

Meet your tutor online and work through the material together using discussion, shared examples and a whiteboard where useful. Sessions can combine explanation, practice and feedback around your questions.

How does the trial lesson work?

Start with a free consultation to discuss your needs. A 60-minute trial lets you experience the support before continuing. We explain the trial options and costs before you book; if the match needs adjusting, we help you find a more suitable tutor.
