IB Economics TutoringConnect the model.
Evaluate the policy.

IB Economics tutoring helps you connect a diagram, a calculation and a real-world argument. Build explanations that distinguish stakeholders, time horizons and assumptions instead of treating an economic model as a complete prediction.

Who really pays a tax?

In this illustrative HL model, demand is Qd = 120 − 2P and supply is Qs = 20 + 3P. A €10 tax per unit is imposed on sellers. Compare the burdens.

Step 1 of 4Find the initial equilibrium.

Set 120 − 2P = 20 + 3P. The equilibrium price is €20 and quantity is 80 units. Keep the buyer’s price and seller’s net receipt distinct after the tax.

Read the complete walkthrough
  1. Find the initial equilibrium.

Set 120 − 2P = 20 + 3P. The equilibrium price is €20 and quantity is 80 units. Keep the buyer’s price and seller’s net receipt distinct after the tax.

  2. Model the tax wedge.

    Supply becomes Qs = 20 + 3(Pc − 10). Equating supply and demand gives Pc = €26, seller receipt = €16 and quantity = 68. The €10 wedge is shared.

  3. Quantify the incidence.

Buyers pay €6 more per unit and sellers receive €4 less: 60% and 40% of the tax respectively. Government revenue is €680. The statutory taxpayer does not determine the economic burden.

  4. Evaluate welfare and assumptions.

With no externality and the stated linear curves, the welfare loss is ½ × €10 × (80 − 68) = €60. If the tax corrects external costs, this diagram alone cannot establish the net welfare effect.

REACH YOUR FULL POTENTIAL

The Benefits of
IB Economics Tutoring

Economics tutoring helps you connect a model to the situation it explains. Build confidence with diagrams, calculations where required and evaluation that considers assumptions, stakeholders and the time frame.

Use a recent response to identify where the explanation, evidence or evaluation needs work. Practise a related question, compare approaches and build the precision and independence needed for stronger assessment responses.

EXCEPTIONAL TUTORS. RIGOROUS STANDARDS.What it takes to teach at AcadyDiscover how we select, screen and support our IB teachers and graduate tutors.

Outstanding qualifications are only the starting point. We select exceptional IB teachers and IB graduate tutors through a rigorous screening process, looking for the expertise, teaching ability and dedication that make a lasting difference to students.

Four qualities. Every Acady tutor.

Deep subject mastery

A thorough understanding of the subject, with the ability to explain both the fundamentals and the most demanding concepts clearly.

IB mastery

Detailed knowledge of the IB curriculum, assessment criteria and exam expectations, so every lesson supports what the student needs to achieve.

Teaching that connects

The ability to turn knowledge into understanding and build rapport with different students, adapting to their learning preferences, obstacles and challenges.

Commitment & consistency

Effective tutoring grows through a structured, consistent relationship. We work with tutors who prioritise their students and commit to supporting them for the long term.

There are many tutors online. Only a small selection meet all four standards. Our selection process brings these qualities together to give you or your child the strongest possible foundation for academic progress.

How we safeguard teaching quality

  1. Recruit against strict requirements

We select IB teachers and graduate tutors whose academic background, IB expertise and commitment meet our demanding entry requirements.

  2. Get to know the person

Through multiple interviews, we explore their motivation, communication style and approach to supporting students over time.

  3. Put teaching skills into practice

Subject-specific case studies test how they explain ideas, respond to difficulties and guide a student towards understanding.

  4. Verify their background

We rigorously check qualifications and relevant experience, making sure the credentials behind an impressive profile stand up to scrutiny.

  5. Monitor quality and consistency

We follow our tutors’ performance, reliability and teaching quality, with the impact on students’ progress as our central measure.

  6. Stay involved with families

We stay in close contact with IB families and their tutors, helping align expectations, address concerns and keep the right support in place for each student to do their best.

EXPERTISE. CARE. REAL PROGRESS.

Why choose Acady
for IB Economics?

At Acady, your tutor match and lesson priorities start with your needs. Work with an IB Economics tutor on connecting economic models with evidence and evaluation, with focused feedback and opportunities to put the learning into practice.

02

Find the missing link in your explanation

Bring a diagram, calculation or essay response. Your tutor identifies whether you need to revisit the model, explain a causal chain or evaluate how the theory applies to the context.

03

Make diagrams do explanatory work

Build and label economic diagrams together, then connect each change to the written argument. For quantitative work, follow the calculations and depth required by your SL or HL course.

04

Evaluate policy with a clear purpose

Compare effects on stakeholders, consider time horizons and examine assumptions. Your tutor gives feedback on whether your judgement follows from the economic analysis and evidence.

05

Discuss real contexts in an online lesson

Share data, articles and practice questions with your tutor. Use the whiteboard to test explanations and practise applying a familiar model to an unfamiliar economic situation.

06

Experience the match in a trial lesson

Start with a free consultation, then a 60-minute trial lesson to experience the support. If the match feels right, continue straight away. If a different approach would suit you better, our team helps you find another tutor.

YOUR COURSE. YOUR NEXT STEP.

Economics SL or HL?

Choose support that matches your actual level, material and examination session. The depth of a lesson should reflect what you are studying and where you want to improve.

SL

STANDARD LEVEL

Apply your understanding clearly.

Build confidence with Economics tasks at the level you are studying. Work on selecting relevant knowledge, communicating a method and using evidence to support your answer.

HL

HIGHER LEVEL

Develop depth and independence.

Work through the additional demands of your HL course and make more precise connections. Your tutor adapts the depth of practice to your syllabus, selected material and teacher feedback.

What we can work through together

Microeconomics & intervention

Use concepts precisely and connect them to relevant evidence. Distinguish description from explanation so that each example advances your argument.

Macroeconomic objectives & policy

Compare perspectives or approaches using consistent criteria. Examine what a model or source can establish and where its assumptions limit the conclusion.

Trade, development & the global economy

Develop a judgement that addresses the question and acknowledges competing priorities. Support it with specific evidence rather than an unsupported generalisation.

Diagrams, data & evaluative arguments

Practise planning and communicating a sustained response. Review the link between your question, method, evidence and conclusion.

Tell us your level, examination session and the topics or options selected by your school. Lessons follow your actual course and its assessment requirements. Official IB course information ↗

What can an IB Economics tutor help with?

IB Economics tutoring helps you connect a diagram, a calculation and a real-world argument. Build explanations that distinguish stakeholders, time horizons and assumptions instead of treating an economic model as a complete prediction. Tell us which part of the course or task is currently most difficult so we can discuss suitable support.

What should I bring to a Economics lesson?

Bring your task instructions, relevant class materials and any teacher feedback. A recent attempt is useful even when it is unfinished: it gives the tutor a clearer view of your reasoning.

Can you help with assessed coursework?

We can discuss methods, practise relevant skills and help you understand expectations. The work you submit must remain your own. Your school’s rules determine which forms of outside support and feedback are appropriate.

Can you support both SL and HL?

Tell us your level, examination session and course materials so we can discuss an appropriate tutor match and the depth of support you need.

How does online tutoring work?

Meet your tutor online and work through the material together using discussion, shared examples and a whiteboard where useful. Sessions can combine explanation, practice and feedback around your questions.

How does the trial lesson work?

Start with a free consultation to discuss your needs. A 60-minute trial lets you experience the support before continuing. We explain the trial options and costs before you book; if the match needs adjusting, we help you find a more suitable tutor.
