  1. Build a precise observation.

The repeated possessive “your” directly addresses the reader, while the short parallel statements present belonging and future security as personal promises. Analyse this relationship rather than simply labelling direct address.

  2. Connect visual hierarchy and purpose.

The universal claim “everyone” occupies the main invitation; restrictions are placed in small print. The hierarchy encourages identification before the reader encounters conditions, serving the advertisement’s persuasive purpose.

  3. Consider a competing reading.

The qualification may provide necessary practical information rather than deliberately conceal exclusion. Its reduced prominence still produces a tension that can be analysed without claiming knowledge of the advertiser’s intent.

  4. Develop the argument.

A defensible reading is that the advertisement sells an image of inclusive belonging while positioning access as conditional. Support that claim through the interaction of wording and placement, then test it against further evidence in a full text.

EXCEPTIONAL TUTORS. RIGOROUS STANDARDS.What it takes to teach at AcadyDiscover how we select, screen and support our IB teachers and graduate tutors.

Outstanding qualifications are only the starting point. We select exceptional IB teachers and IB graduate tutors through a rigorous screening process, looking for the expertise, teaching ability and dedication that make a lasting difference to students.

Four qualities. Every Acady tutor.

Deep subject mastery

A thorough understanding of the subject, with the ability to explain both the fundamentals and the most demanding concepts clearly.

IB mastery

Detailed knowledge of the IB curriculum, assessment criteria and exam expectations, so every lesson supports what the student needs to achieve.

Teaching that connects

The ability to turn knowledge into understanding and build rapport with different students, adapting to their learning preferences, obstacles and challenges.

Commitment & consistency

Effective tutoring grows through a structured, consistent relationship. We work with tutors who prioritise their students and commit to supporting them for the long term.

There are many tutors online. Only a small selection meet all four standards. Our selection process brings these qualities together to give you or your child the strongest possible foundation for academic progress.

How we safeguard teaching quality

  1. Recruit against strict requirements

We select IB teachers and graduate tutors whose academic background, IB expertise and commitment meet our demanding entry requirements.

  2. Get to know the person

Through multiple interviews, we explore their motivation, communication style and approach to supporting students over time.

  3. Put teaching skills into practice

Subject-specific case studies test how they explain ideas, respond to difficulties and guide a student towards understanding.

  4. Verify their background

We rigorously check qualifications and relevant experience, making sure the credentials behind an impressive profile stand up to scrutiny.

  5. Monitor quality and consistency

We follow our tutors’ performance, reliability and teaching quality, with the impact on students’ progress as our central measure.

  6. Stay involved with families

We stay in close contact with IB families and their tutors, helping align expectations, address concerns and keep the right support in place for each student to do their best.

Why choose Acady
for IB English A Language & Literature?

At Acady, your tutor match and lesson priorities start with your needs. Work with an IB English A Language & Literature tutor on developing interpretations that explain how texts create meaning, with focused feedback and opportunities to put the learning into practice.

02

Work with the texts on your course

Bring a literary passage, non-literary text or recent response. Your tutor uses your school’s material and feedback to identify where close reading, interpretation or structure needs attention.

Move beyond naming techniques

Analyse how language, structure and visual choices work together for a purpose and audience. Your tutor helps you connect a precise observation to a defensible interpretation.

Practise comparing literary works, planning focused paragraphs and explaining evidence. Receive feedback that helps you replace summary with analysis and carry a clear argument through a practice response.

05

Rehearse and analyse together online

Annotate texts on screen and practise explaining an interpretation aloud. Discuss your oral preparation using the school’s task guidance, then refine the reasoning in your own words.

06

Experience the match in a trial lesson

YOUR COURSE. YOUR NEXT STEP.

English A Language & Literature SL or HL?

Choose support that matches your actual level, material and examination session. The depth of a lesson should reflect what you are studying and where you want to improve.

SL

STANDARD LEVEL

Apply your understanding clearly.

Build confidence with English A Language & Literature tasks at the level you are studying. Work on selecting relevant knowledge, communicating a method and using evidence to support your answer.

HL

HIGHER LEVEL

Develop depth and independence.

Work through the additional demands of your HL course and make more precise connections. Your tutor adapts the depth of practice to your syllabus, selected material and teacher feedback.

What we can work through together

Non-literary analysis

Explore how wording, form and structure shape meaning. Support an interpretation with precise textual evidence and consider another plausible reading.

Literary interpretation & comparison

Compare how texts develop an idea through different methods. Organise around the argument rather than separate summaries of each work.

Individual oral preparation

Practise explaining a focused interpretation aloud and responding to questions. Use your school’s works and task guidance to shape preparation.

Argument, evidence & analytical writing

Build clear paragraphs in which evidence supports analysis. Work on transitions, conceptual precision and the relationship between a local detail and a wider argument.

Tell us your level, examination session and the topics or options selected by your school. Lessons follow your actual course and its assessment requirements. Official IB course information ↗
