Who benefits from flood protection?

A fictional city must choose between two districts. Each option costs the same. Evaluate the decision using exposure, vulnerability and the limits of the evidence.

A has more residents exposed, but B has lower insurance coverage and warning access. These indicators suggest different capacities to prepare for and recover from flooding; population alone cannot settle the decision.

  1. Distinguish exposure and vulnerability.

A has more residents exposed, but B has lower insurance coverage and warning access. These indicators suggest different capacities to prepare for and recover from flooding; population alone cannot settle the decision.

  2. Consider scale and distribution.

A city-wide reduction in expected losses may conceal unequal impacts. Examine renters, informal housing and people with limited mobility within each district rather than treating either population as homogeneous.

  3. Compare the actual strategies.

Assess how each option changes flood probability, depth and recovery. A wall, drainage scheme and warning system do different things. Protection in one location may also transfer risk downstream.

  4. Justify a qualified decision.

A vulnerability-led case could prioritise B, but hazard severity, projected losses and intervention effectiveness are missing. State the criterion used, acknowledge competing priorities and identify evidence needed before allocating funds.

REACH YOUR FULL POTENTIAL

The Benefits of
IB Geography Tutoring

Geography asks you to connect processes with places. A tutor helps you use case studies precisely, interpret unfamiliar data and evaluate how an explanation changes with scale and context.

Use a recent response to identify where the explanation, evidence or evaluation needs work. Practise a related question, compare approaches and build the precision and independence needed for stronger assessment responses.

EXCEPTIONAL TUTORS. RIGOROUS STANDARDS.What it takes to teach at AcadyDiscover how we select, screen and support our IB teachers and graduate tutors.

Outstanding qualifications are only the starting point. We select exceptional IB teachers and IB graduate tutors through a rigorous screening process, looking for the expertise, teaching ability and dedication that make a lasting difference to students.

Four qualities. Every Acady tutor.

Deep subject mastery

A thorough understanding of the subject, with the ability to explain both the fundamentals and the most demanding concepts clearly.

IB mastery

Detailed knowledge of the IB curriculum, assessment criteria and exam expectations, so every lesson supports what the student needs to achieve.

Teaching that connects

The ability to turn knowledge into understanding and build rapport with different students, adapting to their learning preferences, obstacles and challenges.

Commitment & consistency

Effective tutoring grows through a structured, consistent relationship. We work with tutors who prioritise their students and commit to supporting them for the long term.

There are many tutors online. Only a small selection meet all four standards. Our selection process brings these qualities together to give you or your child the strongest possible foundation for academic progress.

How we safeguard teaching quality

  1. Recruit against strict requirements

We select IB teachers and graduate tutors whose academic background, IB expertise and commitment meet our demanding entry requirements.

  2. Get to know the person

Through multiple interviews, we explore their motivation, communication style and approach to supporting students over time.

  3. Put teaching skills into practice

Subject-specific case studies test how they explain ideas, respond to difficulties and guide a student towards understanding.

  4. Verify their background

We rigorously check qualifications and relevant experience, making sure the credentials behind an impressive profile stand up to scrutiny.

  5. Monitor quality and consistency

We follow our tutors’ performance, reliability and teaching quality, with the impact on students’ progress as our central measure.

  6. Stay involved with families

We stay in close contact with IB families and their tutors, helping align expectations, address concerns and keep the right support in place for each student to do their best.

EXPERTISE. CARE. REAL PROGRESS.

Why choose Acady
for IB Geography?

At Acady, your tutor match and lesson priorities start with your needs. Work with an IB Geography tutor on connecting processes, places and evaluative arguments, with focused feedback and opportunities to put the learning into practice.

02

Start with your topics and case studies

Bring a difficult question, a case-study response or fieldwork feedback. Your tutor identifies whether you need to strengthen the geographical explanation, the evidence or the judgement.

03

Use case studies to answer the question

Connect specific places to wider geographical processes. Practise selecting evidence and explaining how scale, location and different stakeholder priorities affect the conclusion.

04

Get precise feedback on data and evaluation

Work on reading maps and graphs, interpreting patterns and recognising limitations. Your tutor helps you improve the link between the data, the geographical explanation and your final judgement.

05

Explore maps and fieldwork evidence together

Share diagrams, maps and datasets in an online lesson. Compare interpretations with your tutor and practise explaining how your method affects what can be concluded from fieldwork.

06

Experience the match in a trial lesson

Start with a free consultation, then a 60-minute trial lesson to experience the support. If the match feels right, continue straight away. If a different approach would suit you better, our team helps you find another tutor.

YOUR COURSE. YOUR NEXT STEP.

Geography SL or HL?

Choose support that matches your actual level, material and examination session. The depth of a lesson should reflect what you are studying and where you want to improve.

SL

STANDARD LEVEL

Apply your understanding clearly.

Build confidence with Geography tasks at the level you are studying. Work on selecting relevant knowledge, communicating a method and using evidence to support your answer.

HL

HIGHER LEVEL

Develop depth and independence.

Work through the additional demands of your HL course and make more precise connections. Your tutor adapts the depth of practice to your syllabus, selected material and teacher feedback.

What we can work through together

Physical systems & human environments

Use concepts precisely and connect them to relevant evidence. Distinguish description from explanation so that each example advances your argument.

Population, resources & global change

Compare perspectives or approaches using consistent criteria. Examine what a model or source can establish and where its assumptions limit the conclusion.

Case studies & evaluative writing

Develop a judgement that addresses the question and acknowledges competing priorities. Support it with specific evidence rather than an unsupported generalisation.

Fieldwork, maps & data interpretation

Practise planning and communicating a sustained response. Review the link between your question, method, evidence and conclusion.

Tell us your level, examination session and the topics or options selected by your school. Lessons follow your actual course and its assessment requirements. Official IB course information ↗

What can an IB Geography tutor help with?

IB Geography tutoring helps you connect physical processes, human decisions and the evidence in a map or dataset. Build explanations across scales and use case studies to support a judgement rather than decorate an answer. Tell us which part of the course or task is currently most difficult so we can discuss suitable support.

What should I bring to a Geography lesson?

Bring your task instructions, relevant class materials and any teacher feedback. A recent attempt is useful even when it is unfinished: it gives the tutor a clearer view of your reasoning.

Can you help with assessed coursework?

We can discuss methods, practise relevant skills and help you understand expectations. The work you submit must remain your own. Your school’s rules determine which forms of outside support and feedback are appropriate.

Can you support both SL and HL?

Tell us your level, examination session and course materials so we can discuss an appropriate tutor match and the depth of support you need.

How does online tutoring work?

Meet your tutor online and work through the material together using discussion, shared examples and a whiteboard where useful. Sessions can combine explanation, practice and feedback around your questions.

How does the trial lesson work?

Start with a free consultation to discuss your needs. A 60-minute trial lets you experience the support before continuing. We explain the trial options and costs before you book; if the match needs adjusting, we help you find a more suitable tutor.
