APPLY. INTERPRET. EVALUATE.

What does the text leave unsaid?

How does the narrator challenge a promise of public belonging?

Original illustrative teaching material · not an IB exam question
Original teaching fragment
Nos prometieron una plaza para todos. Ahora, el único lugar donde podemos reunirnos está detrás de una puerta con llave.
Step 1 of 4Read the narrative position.

“Nos” constructs a collective perspective, while the unnamed subject of “prometieron” leaves the source of authority outside that group. The promise reaches everyone, but the voices are not equally present.

Read the complete walkthrough
  1. Read the narrative position.

“Nos” constructs a collective perspective, while the unnamed subject of “prometieron” leaves the source of authority outside that group. The promise reaches everyone, but the voices are not equally present.

  2. Connect form and effect.

The temporal shift to “ahora” contrasts a past promise with a present restriction. “El único lugar” narrows possibility, and the locked door materialises the barrier to gathering.

  3. Test another interpretation.

The door may be literal, symbolic or both. The narrator’s collective claim also needs scrutiny: whose experience does “nos” include, and could others perceive the space differently?

  4. Build a qualified argument.

Develop a reading in which spatial imagery exposes a contradiction between inclusive rhetoric and controlled access. Support it through pronouns, time and restriction rather than assuming a specific historical regime.

EXCEPTIONAL TUTORS. RIGOROUS STANDARDS.What it takes to teach at AcadyDiscover how we select, screen and support our IB teachers and graduate tutors.

Outstanding qualifications are only the starting point. We select exceptional IB teachers and IB graduate tutors through a rigorous screening process, looking for the expertise, teaching ability and dedication that make a lasting difference to students.

Four qualities. Every Acady tutor.

Deep subject mastery

A thorough understanding of the subject, with the ability to explain both the fundamentals and the most demanding concepts clearly.

IB mastery

Detailed knowledge of the IB curriculum, assessment criteria and exam expectations, so every lesson supports what the student needs to achieve.

Teaching that connects

The ability to turn knowledge into understanding and build rapport with different students, adapting to their learning preferences, obstacles and challenges.

Commitment & consistency

Effective tutoring grows through a structured, consistent relationship. We work with tutors who prioritise their students and commit to supporting them for the long term.

There are many tutors online. Only a small selection meet all four standards. Our selection process brings these qualities together to give you or your child the strongest possible foundation for academic progress.

How we safeguard teaching quality

  1. Recruit against strict requirements

We select IB teachers and graduate tutors whose academic background, IB expertise and commitment meet our demanding entry requirements.

  2. Get to know the person

Through multiple interviews, we explore their motivation, communication style and approach to supporting students over time.

  3. Put teaching skills into practice

Subject-specific case studies test how they explain ideas, respond to difficulties and guide a student towards understanding.

  4. Verify their background

We rigorously check qualifications and relevant experience, making sure the credentials behind an impressive profile stand up to scrutiny.

  5. Monitor quality and consistency

We follow our tutors’ performance, reliability and teaching quality, with the impact on students’ progress as our central measure.

  6. Stay involved with families

We stay in close contact with IB families and their tutors, helping align expectations, address concerns and keep the right support in place for each student to do their best.

Spanish A SL or HL?

Choose support that matches your actual level, material and examination session. The depth of a lesson should reflect what you are studying and where you want to improve.

SL

STANDARD LEVEL

Apply your understanding clearly.

Build confidence with Spanish A tasks at the level you are studying. Work on selecting relevant knowledge, communicating a method and using evidence to support your answer.

HL

HIGHER LEVEL

Develop depth and independence.

Work through the additional demands of your HL course and make more precise connections. Your tutor adapts the depth of practice to your syllabus, selected material and teacher feedback.

What we can work through together

Close reading & literary form

Explore how wording, form and structure shape meaning. Support an interpretation with precise textual evidence and consider another plausible reading.

Comparative argument & context

Compare how texts develop an idea through different methods. Organise around the argument rather than separate summaries of each work.

Oral analysis & textual evidence

Practise explaining a focused interpretation aloud and responding to questions. Use your school’s works and task guidance to shape preparation.

Planning, structure & precise expression

Build clear paragraphs in which evidence supports analysis. Work on transitions, conceptual precision and the relationship between a local detail and a wider argument.
